2019 – installation
Wood, xylophagous, stretch film.

…….During a cold winter, I brought back from the countryside a log large enough to make a stool. I realised few days later that there was life inside. I simply decided to adopt the log and the wood-eaters who lived there. I was listening to them every night, until i get scared. I had to create a security perimeter of our respective living spaces by using stretch film.

From that moment things changed, I started to think about the confrontation of every life-worlds. I had locked this wood-eaters society inside its own living environment, inside my own living place, the apartment where I lock myself in every night. This confrontation made me have an Evolution vertigo. How did we get to this point, how does living together operate with our cultural heritage, the inter-species confrontation, our apparent domination over the world we inhabit? Why does this desire for domination make us go so far from the object of our first desire and from what we need to live? I guess you can ask yourself similar questions in front of a fish aquarium, or a group of hens in an intensive farm. But when I faced a log in cellophane, I didn’t felt like going vegan. I simply had the feeling of remembering what I had forgotten.
